CloudStack Ready to VM, Soon Ready for Oracle

CloudStack Ready for VMWareVirtual Machine seller VMWare’s annual VMWorld conference kicked off today in Las Vegas, Nevada, and now there is significant buzz coming from the event. Citrix’s acquisition of Cloud.com last month has led expanding the availability of CloudStack, Cloud.com’s IaaS platform which is now assisting users with virtualized data center management. This clever business move allows their new product to be compatible with both VMware’s vSphere and Oracle’s OracleVM, two extremely popular virtualization platforms.Commenting on the matter, Citrix VP of Product Marketing, Cloud Platforms Group Peder Ulander stated:

“By enhancing availability and support for VMware vSphere and Oracle VM, the latest release of Citrix CloudStack enables customers to build clouds on their existing virtualization and datacenter technologies while taking advantage of the most widely deployed open source cloud platform today.”

He continued...

“A powerful, hypervisor-agnostic solution, CloudStack helps customers build clouds the way the world’s largest and most successful public clouds are built – simple, automated, elastic, scalable and massively efficient. And by providing advanced enterprise features that support vSphere and OVM in a free, production-ready offering, users are given a choice, not a surcharge, when building out their cloud platform.”

Meanwhile, the company is providing the new version with VMWare compatibility now. However, if you’re looking to use it for Oracle, you’ll have to wait until October. There’s been plenty of virtualization news lately preceding VMWorld 2011. Just last week, Dell also announced VMWare compatibility for its EqualLogic line. EqualLogic provides solutions for virtualized data centers.CloudStack was a main product acquisition when Citrix bought Cloud.com in July.
